My background

My journalism career took me around the world, from Italy to Russia, China to Brazil and, closer to home, from Ottawa to Vancouver. I spent most of my career working in sports journalism, covering six Olympic Games for Postmedia News and the Vancouver Sun, and two more as a freelance editor. In 2017, I was recognized with a Leadership in Sports Media Award at the Paul Carson Sports Broadcast and Media Awards. I also have worked as a city reporter, city editor, page designer, and features and multimedia editor.

In 2019, I transitioned into teaching, following through on a goal I’d set while completing my bachelor’s degree in journalism. I taught my first course at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in May 2019 and now teach on a part-time, permanent basis.

I am also the executive director of the National Newspaper Awards.
